Costa Rica became the first nation to ban hunting in 2012 after Congress unanimously voted to make it illegal to poach wildlife. This is a huge deal because of the opportunities it means for the animals to flourish, but also because of the reported wake of controversy over the poaching of endangered animals. A number of airlines are even refusing to ship hunting trophies, which is why it’s such great news that Costa Rica is the first country to ban hunting. Under the new law, those caught hunting will face up to four months in prison or fines up to $3,000.
