The trail features a natural, rugged path with obstacles like rocks, branches, and tree roots. Although the elevation gain is moderate, you’ll need to be able to walk for several miles on uneven terrain. Furthermore, you’ll need to use a rope to access the waterfall cave and endure the hot and humid conditions of the dry forest, with temperatures averaging 33°C (91°F).a

Although you’ll be having a blast swimming and jumping in the pool, your guide will soon signal it’s time to move on, promising that the best is yet to come. Trust in their expertise and follow them further down the river, until you reach the majestic entrance to the Catarata La Leona. Then, you’ll understand why your guide said the previous section wasn’t the most beautiful part of the river.
The Final Leg of Your Journey: Reaching Catarata La Leona
As you round the bend, a serene blue pool comes into view, with a rope stretching into the cave in the distance. The sound of crashing water grows louder, building your anticipation. Your guide explains the next step in your adventure.
You’ll swim through the canyon, using the rope to guide you into the cave, where the majestic waterfall awaits. With a reassuring “Todo bien?”, your guide takes the plunge, motioning for you to follow.

Ladies, feel free to wear your swimsuit during swimming time, but consider a one-piece suit to avoid any mishaps. What to bring: As you prepare for your adventure, remember to bring a few vital items. Pack a change of clothes, a towel, sunscreen, a hat, and a waterproof camera (such as a GoPro 8) to capture the memories. Don’t forget waterproof backpacks and dry bags to keep your belongings safe.
While your guide may provide a dry bag, it’s essential to bring your own to ensure it’s waterproof and in good condition. Unfortunately, Yeison’s phone got wet and died due to a hole in the provided dry bag. The finca offers changing rooms, a bathroom, and a small picnic area for your convenience.
