If you’re thinking about renting a car and driving in Costa Rica, check out this great blog post with some tips on how to do it! They say that driving in Costa Rica was a a great choice that they made, because it gives you the freedom to stop and go as you please, and discover areas that you might not get to see on a typical tour or bus route!
Some general information for driving in Costa Rica includes bringing a valid driver’s license from your home country, and to also make sure to bring your passport in case you happen to get pulled over. There aren’t any special requirements for international driver’s licenses, and the rules of the road are typically similar to what you’re used to back home.
Driving lanes in Costa Rica are marked with double solid lines when passing is not allowed and dotted lines when passing is permitted. Speed limits are posted on signs, but be sure to note that they are in kilometers and not miles! Seat belts are required, and of course always a good idea anyway, as well as common sense whenever you are driving for safety!
